Your starting point is in front of the Thermes and the hotel/restaurant Le Clos Pité in Préchacq-les-Bains. The spa’s special feature is that it has two kinds of thermal springs: calcium-sulphate water used to treat rheumatism and sulphur water used to treat ear, nose and throat complaints. The thermal water comes from rainwater and from riverwater rising to the surface after thousands of years, heated by the depths of the earth. As it passes through the different layers of soil, it picks up mineral salts along the way. There are resurgences of thermal water in the Adour, so the river and its alluvia are considered to be a pre-thermal environment. Follow the path and step out onto the barthes by Gousse, the series of alluvial plains on either side of the Adour River. A diverse array of plantlife and wildlife lives there.
