Tour-clocher du couvent des Augustins

In the heart of the bastide was the Augustinian convent built from 1401 by the lord of Castelnau, who wanted to install the burials of members of his family there. It housed a community of Augustinian monks, who watched over the tombs. The Protestants sacked the convent in 1569, but the church was spared at that time because the Castelnau family had embraced the Protestant faith at the time of the Reformation.
This remarkable building was 52 m long and 13 m wide. Only the bell-tower, 25 m high, remains, classified as a World Heritage site, as well as the feet of the huge church portal, a few vestiges: an arch, an archway... and the portal of the medieval garden.
In the 19th century, a priest bought the remains of the convent and installed the school there
For security reasons, the site is not open to visitors.
