Eglise Saint-Pierre

The church of Saint-Pierre in Hinx-sur-l'Adour still has many elements from the 13th and 14th centuries. Originally, the town of Hinx had two churches. The one dedicated to Saint André was destroyed. A barn is now located on its site. The second one, dedicated to Saint Peter, is the present church. Built in the 13th century, it was, like many Landes churches, saved from destruction by a restoration carried out around 1850. From the outside, the first thing you notice is the 16th century tower-porch, which was probably used for defensive purposes during the period of the Wars of Religion, which were very virulent in the region. In addition to the flamboyantly decorated entrance door, a 13th or 14th century portal is sheltered by a tower of the church. Inside, the building has two naves. One of them dates back to around 1850.
