For more than 25 years, the Landes département has been actively committed, through its Espaces Naturels Sensibles (ENS) remit, to halting the erosion of biodiversity and combating the disappearance of natural areas, in order to pass on its exceptional natural heritage for future generations. The Schéma Nature 40, adopted in 2018 for a ten-year period, is the biodiversity component of the département's ENS policy. This ambitious plan aims to federate players who share the Department's objectives in terms of protecting Landes' natural areas and local biodiversity, to consolidate its network of Nature 40 sites via acquisitions, labeling, contractualization and site management, to complete and enhance knowledge of Landes' biodiversity and finally to share knowledge through education and awareness-raising.
