Arbre Remarquable - Le Séquoïa

The sequoia (sequoia sempervirens) is a tree native to the west coast of the United States. This tree was sown or planted in the park of the Maison Jeandanse around 1870, which makes it one of the oldest of its kind in France.
It is composed of 6 trunks (probably offshoots from a decay of the main trunk), the smallest has a circumference of 1.50m and the largest of 3.30m.
Its circumference at 1.50m from the ground is 8.70m; its height is estimated at 39m. The bark is very thick and protects the tree from fire. The seeds are contained in the cones, they take 2 years to ripen and can remain at the end of the branches for up to 20 years. They are released little by little.
In 2006, the Sequoia was awarded the label "Arbre Remarquable de France" by the association A.R.B.R.E.S.
