Ville de Villeneuve de Marsan

Capital of the Landes region which produces the most famous brandy, Bas Armagnac, the city is located on the Bordeaux-Pau axis
An inscription on the bell of the church of Saint-Hippolyte reveals that it was melted down in the year 1000 and then re-melted in 1766: this is the first trace of the urbanization of these places.
In 1320, it became a bastide in the Vicomté de Marsan. Like the neighbouring medieval towns, it suffered during the Hundred Years' War: the town and the church were burnt down by English troops
Today, Villeneuve still preserves some vestiges of its past that it is interesting to discover such as the crenellated Tower, the arenas built in 1911, the covered market. A walk starting from the church allows you to discover the green theatre, the wash-house built in 1820 and a fountain.
