Mémorial de Clauzon

The sector of Mugron saw its darkest pages of the Second World War between July 8 and 16, 1944, with the arrival of a special German repression unit. Indeed, determined to dismantle the local Resistance network, the soldiers looted houses and arrested entire families. Jean Dangoumau and Henri Campagne were shot in the wood of Clauzon, Jean Deyris and Daniel Saubusse were shot in their homes. In 1946, four steles were erected in memory of these "Morts pour la France", at the places where they died. They are now gathered in the Clauzon Memorial, inaugurated on July 12, 2003. A commemoration takes place every year on the same date. These graves, which seem quite modest, express the daily and courageous fight, carried by women and men against the extreme ideology which occupied France at that time.
