Les arènes
The Landes arenas were for many built towards the end of the 19th century. However, some arenas, such as here in Bégaar, are built especially for the summer period with a wooden frame.
The majority of the arenas host Landaises races. During these races, the spreaders dodge at the last moment the cow in the centre of the track. The jumpers, for their part, make jumps over the cow.
During the local festivals, arena games (toro-ball) are also organised as well as cockade competitions where shavers have to tear off a piece of cloth between the cow's horns.
In larger arenas, novilladas or bullfights take place.
