In his attempt to clarify the matter, Francis Ponge starts from this elementary description: The table is (usually) a wooden top solidly established horizontally on four legs where one can lean on. Alain Domagala at first considers this approach with benevolence, but it is to better push it away, contradict it and evoke the possibility of its reversal. His wooden table is oversized and lies on its side. It is impossible to lean against it. The horizontal becomes vertical. Standing like this, it becomes a rampart. At first, it is seen as an architectural construction and defers the apprehension of its initial function. This immense, defensive table cannot be reduced to a definitive formula and strangely places itself at the service of something other than itself.
