Pre-existing village, very old passage place.
Jacobean route.
Benedictine abbey founded around 960 on Gallo-Roman remains.
Toll bridge created in 1289.
Bastide founded on December 16, 1290 by Eustache de Beaumarchais (seneschal of Toulouse for the king of France).
Passes from the hands of the French to those of the English who take it back in 1295.
Destroyed during the Wars of Religion, then new activity in the 17th-18th century until the Revolution.
