Fortifications médiévales

The town of Saint-Sever was founded and fortified in 1100, by the Benedictine abbot Suavius who issued one of the oldest charters in Gascony, along with the town's bourgeoisie. Only a shell stone gate of the Touron is preserved
Subsequently, an act of trimming of 1270, between the abbey and the King Duke of England regulated the relations of the abbey with the sovereigns, first English and then French
The fortifications were enlarged in the 15th century at the request of the Jurats. Some vestiges are still visible: sections of wall, Bourrouilhan tower, Mauléon tower, watchtower base and second door of Touron.
