Banos et l'art naïf

The village of Banos en Chalosse is perched on a promontory overlooking the Adour valley to the north and offering a clear view of the Pyrenees to the south. The only naive art sculpture in the department, its war memorial is unusual in this type of commemorative sculpture. It has been registered as a historical monument since September 11, 2014.
It is the work of Canon Jean-Baptiste Descorps who was the parish priest of the commune from 1902 to 1962 and who also decorated the church with frescoes, paintings including "the handing over of keys to Saint Peter" and a Christ on the cross. The view from the top of the church tower is impressive.
