In the 1950s, Philippe Dodier lived in Paris with painter Eugène de Kermadec, who was also caught up in bullfighting fever.
Philippe Dodier, photographer for the magazine toros, wanted to go down to the bullring to understand it. During tientas in Spain, he came into communion with the dance of the bull and the bullfighter.
His meeting with Eugène de Kermadec, who became his mentor, was decisive and shaped his way of painting: painting not what you see, but what you feel, is one of the keys to his painting. The starting point is always a photo or something concrete, then emotion makes the watercolor.
