Married to Ivano, Delia, mother of 3, lives in Rome in the second half of the '40s. The city is torn between the hope born of the Liberation and the material difficulties caused by the war that has only just ended. Faced with her violent, authoritarian husband, Delia finds solace only in her friend Marisa, with whom she shares moments of levity and intimate confidences. Their gloomy routine comes to an end in the spring, when the whole family prepares to celebrate the imminent engagement of their eldest daughter, Marcella. But the arrival of a mysterious letter turns everything upside down and spurs Delia to find the courage to imagine a better future, and not just for herself.
