Clearly identifiable by the deciduous vegetation contrasting with the maritime pine forest of the plateau, the Grande Leyre is a veritable waterway winding through undergrowth and banks lined with royal osmund. The rust-colored water glides over the undulating sand. The area is teeming with dragonflies and birds. Alder and oak form a hedge of honor, joining their crowns to form a canopy of vegetation. The gallery forest, narrow on the Landes side, criss-crosses the pine forest. A geologically young river, the Leyre transports sand, which accumulates in its meanders. Canoeing offers a gentle way to discover this rich and fragile natural environment. Regulations require all canoeists to know how to swim before setting off. This activity is open to children aged 6 and over who can swim, accompanied by their parents.
