Eglise Saint-Pierre

Saint Pierre du Rau, conceived in the 12th century, was demolished and then rebuilt. Financed and built by the people of Gamard themselves, it was inaugurated in 1881. Of neo-gothic inspiration, the church has 3 naves. The high altar in white stone from Poitiers is gracefully sculpted. The door of the tabernacle in gilded bronze illustrates the scene of Emmaus. The stained glass windows in the choir represent the Sacred Heart and the Virgin Mary in the centre, St Catherine and St Peter, patron saint of Gamarde, on the left. On the lower sides, Our Lady of Buglose and the Holy Family fleeing to Egypt; in medallion, the patron saints of the first donors. At the entrance of the church, a small chapel for the dead of the two wars serves as a tomb for Abbot Bordes, who was shot during deportation.
