Maison de la Vannerie

Did you know that wine and wickerwork are closely linked? Wickerwork baskets were used to transport the grapes at harvest time. The ‘Maison de la Vannerie’ in the centre of ‘Castelnau Chalosse’ village retraces the importance of this activity during the 18th and 19th centuries. Unique in the department of Landes, you will find all sorts of baskets, eel traps and historic pictures. Your guide who will welcome you with a passion is available to accompany you on your visit in July and August. He might even take you through the village to the church and to the ancestral ‘Motte Féodale’ fortification or maybe you’ll discover one of the last basket makers still active.
