The beach… Dad’s making the most of his nap. Mum is devouring her holiday book. And you, what do you have planned? N-O-T-H-I-N-G?! Here’s an idea: “beach games”.

Beach games for kids - The Landes
Family holiday and nobody will play with you? If lazing around in the sun isn’t for you, then it’s time to invent some amazing beach games!

Don’t try to play burying your Dad in the sand. I’m not sure he’ll want to play today... Instead, build a sand castle, or throw yourself into building a sea water swimming pool, just for you. You could also go looking for hermit crabs (they’re not dangerous). Had you thought about writing your name in wet sand or jumping over the waves? (It’s a real sport- you’ll see!).

If you remembered to bring some little balls, you could build a mountain out of damp sand and make a circuit for them to race down.
Or ask the pretty little girl next to you to come and play “Seashell circle”- you need around fifteen seashells in a circle, and in turn, take away one or more shells. The one who is left with one shell loses…

If you’re lucky enough to be on holiday in Hossegor or Biscarrosse-Lac, ask your parents to sign you up to the “Mickey” beach club, a safe space in the fresh air for kids from 3 to 12 years which offers plenty of fun activities. If you like, you can learn to swim or perfect your technique.

And when you’ve exhausted after all these games, you might also like to sit back under the parasol and nibble on a doughnut!
